Afternoon session: Observations

I take back what I said this morning about Kurt Rambis: He gave us media guys a good look at his new team during an afternon scrimmage.
And it wasn’t pretty.
Actually, Rambis called it “fairly awful” and said it didn’t really surprise him much.
Rambis installed the basics of his offensive philosophies this morning, then tested in the afternoon to see how much his new players had absorbed. Turns out, it wasn’t much in a scrimmage that was ragged to say the least.
But it did provide the first glimpse at what could be a starting lineup. In the black jerseys were Jonny Flynn and Corey Brewer in the backcourt, Ryan Gomes at small forward, Kevin Love at power forward and Al Jefferson at center.
Ryan Hollins provided a couple of jaw-dropping dunks (David Kahn calls his athleticism “almost shocking” and “off the chart”) and also threw the ball all over the place.
Flynn looked, well, really small on a Wolves team that now at least looks like an NBA team with the height of Hollins, Pecherov and camp body Jared Reiner.
Brewer and Jefferson both seemed to have no problem with their knees after the morning session and participated fully in the afternoon, although there was a scary moment when Hollins, going for the block, knocked Brewer hard into the basket support.
Good thing for the basket padding, huh?
“Good thing Corey has a hard head,” Rambis said.
The team went to Glen Taylor’s house for dinner tonight. They practice at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. (closed to the public) on Wednesday.
