Training camp, Day 4

Here a couple of things from the third scrimmage that I didn’t get the chance to put up last night:

– Al Jefferson played just the first game of the night scrimmage and then watched from the sideline with a gigantic bag of ice strapped to each leg. Kurt Rambis called it just a precaution, saying Al’s tired from three days of practice as he works to get his conditioning back and the team didn’t want his aches and soreness elsewhere possibly putting stress on his surgically repaired knee. “He didn’t ask to sit out,” Rambis said.

– Rambis got his first extended look at Ramon Sessions and Jonny Flynn together in a scrimmage. How’d it look?  “They didn’t look great out there,” Rambis said. “But that doesn’t mean a whole lot. I think they can do very well out there together on the floor. They were trying to force themselves to play together rather than just involved everybody else. They were trying to manufacture things that just weren’t there.”

– A quick snapshot impression: Kevin Love and Sasha Pavlovic can shoot it. Love has been very assertive looking for his outside shot and is making them. Pavlovic just has such a nice, sweet stroke.

– Flynn looked like he was figuring out how to get to the basket against better guys he didn’t see in summer league. Had a nice drive and lay-in after Ryan Hollins whacked him hard as he went to the rim.

– Corey Brewer on whether he expects the team to guarantee him that $3.7 million salary for 2010-11 by Oct. 31: “Either they want me or they don’t. I’ll just do what I always do and that’s play hard. Either they like me or they’re not going to like me. I hope they like me because I like being here in Minnesota.”

UPDATE: Al just had a regular-sized bag of ice on each knee after this morning’s practice. Thursday night, he was practically wrapped in ice.

“I had six on yesterday,” he said. “It’s a better day than it was yesterday. My knee’s fine. I haven’t had no problem with my knee all of training camp. The rest of my body? That’s a different story.

“I went six practices. They didn’t know if I’d be back for training camp, so to be back is big time. They didn’t want me to overdo it. My knee isn’t hurting at all. It’s my thighs, all these muscles I haven’t worked in a long time are getting overworked, really. They’re just letting me know I have to slow down a little bit. It’s most definitely a conditioning thing.”
