No Al tonight in Denver
Posted on October 20th, 2009 – 7:58 PMBy Jerry Zgoda
Al Jefferson isn’t at Pepsi Center for tonight’s game against the Nuggets, but Kurt Rambis said his absence is because Jefferson isn’t feeling well — cold/flu-like symptoms — rather than that Achilles tendon issue.
With Kevin Love recovering in New York City from today’s successful hand surgery and Jefferson at the team’s hotel, Rambis started Oleksiy Pecherov at the “center” position with Ryan Gomes and Damien Wilkins in the frontcourt, Flynn and Brewer in the backcourt.
Rambis experimented with lineups and rotations for the first five preseason games, intending to settle on those he’ll use in the regular season in these last three preseason games.
That plan gets modified now with both Love and Jefferson out.
Rambis said Jefferson’s sore Achilles wouldn’t have prevented him from playing tonight if it were an “important” ballgame, which, of course, everyone knows it isn’t. He said he isn’t concerned the Achilles will keep Jefferson out of the season opener just eight days away.
“But I don’t know how sick he is or how sick he will become,” Rambis said.

Has anyone else noticed that we’ve played better WITHOUT Love and Jefferson so far this preseason…?
Corey is off to the races tonight…
As a matter a fact I have not Bryan. But this blog is better without you commenting, that is a fact that I noticed right away.
Pecherov’s back to being useless. And once again, Corey is our only reliable player.
We’ve been in some sort of freakish Twolves twilight zone this preseason.

Peche is garbage. The only thing he has done is break Love’s hand. He is a loser.
I’d almost want to take Jawai, keep Reiner, and make Pech the guy that gets cut…
I like keeping Pecherov around as a running joke this year. Liven things up a little!
But really, I’m very glad to hear that Jefferson’s achilles thing isn’t serious. Dear God that would have rendered the entire season pointless.
I haven’t seen him much; what is Pech doing thats so bad?
Pech has so far shown a disconcerting combination of not being able to hit open shots and not being able to play defense.
So in summery, he’s done nothing.
Is Hollins in Rambis’ doghouse already? I mean, we’re without Al and Love and yet Ryan hasn’t even played 10 minutes (and this time he’s actually not in foul trouble..)
where are you guys watching the game?
Sessions and Flynn playing together
alystarre
that news is deafening! how do they look?
Mat I can’t watch it, I am at work, only going by NBA.com and I noticed they were both on at the same time.
Bryan,
I am not going to say the Peche is impressive, but when have you even seen him play this year? His first game back was the only home game and none of the other games were televised.
Mike B - If you go to Canis Hoops on game nights, they usually post a live feed of all preseason games. I’ve actually watched both Chicago games and the second Milwaukee one. This is actually the first game Pech has played in that I HAVEN’T watched, but I think tonight his box score alone says everything that needs to be said.
Is something bothering Sessions? He hasn’t done anything this fall. I wonder if the situation here isn’t what he thought it was going to be? By looking at his stats he almost looks lost. Of course watching him would show something totally different I’m sure. At least I hope so…
Anyway, excellent game from Corey tonight. Plus Gomes and Ellington finally decided to play.
Would be nice if our point guards would drop more than 3 assists though…
Wow. Sessions was a -38 in 19 minutes last night. I doubt I’ve ever seen a +/- like that.
They’ll see Brook Lopez and Shaq in their first two games. Lotta points in the paint coming up.
