Flynn, Ellington still sick with opener a day away
Posted on October 27th, 2009 – 3:27 PMBy Jerry Zgoda
Jonny Flynn and Wayne Ellington both missed practice today for the second straight day because they’re still ill.
Kurt Rambis said both players were feeling better today than yesterday and said if they’re feeling well enough to attend tomorrow morning’s shootaround, “there’s no reason they shouldn’t play” against New Jersey.
If Flynn isn’t well enough to start and play major minutes, Ramon Sessions, of course, will start at point guard, with Jason Hart backing him up.
Al Jefferson said he felt good again today and is steaming ahead toward tomorrow, although Rambis said he would check with him at shootaround to be sure that Achilles isn’t flaring up again.
The Wolves say they have about 2,000 tickets remaining for the opener.

Well, if Flynn can’t go, sounds like Ramon will get his shot. I wonder how he’s looking in practice with the first team? without Flynn, I’d suspect:
PG Sessions
SG Brewer
SF Gomes/Wilkens
PF Pech/Gomes
C Big Al
I hope its Wilkins as the offense seems to flow better when he’s on the court, seems he gets the point of the offense and sees things developing, sees the holes in the defense. That and nothing is lost on defense w/Wilkins instead of Gomes. I’d say its Hollins at C with AJ at 5 against Lopez. No reason to throw AJ against Lopez for the majority of the game at this point in time.
Sessions should be fine w/whatever unit he plays with. I’d think no matter if Flynn is healthy enough to play or not, Sessions will get the start now. If he plays well, Flynn may be the backup for sometime–but he’ll still get his minutes.
Well, we have to put either Jefferson or Hollins on Lopez, because asking Pech to guard him is just begging for a loss.
Problem then is, do we want Al chasing Yi around. He’s underachieved so far, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned from preseason, it’s that we get slaughtered by mobile, athletic bigs. Even the unskilled ones.
well when Al was healthy, he was developing a game outside the post area; its possible his defense might extend out there as well (especially with his lost weight)
Stream of Conscienceness: Ricky Rubio & K Love for Rajon Rondo and a 1st. Wolves of course would have to give up alot. Problem is they can’t trade a pick (Clippers got it) so they would have to add Love. We can then play Flynn and Rondo at the same time, cuz Rondo’s big enough. Imagine the athleticism. Flynn, Rondo, Brewer. Then have Jefferson for the half court. Multiple first rounders bound to give us some shooting and size. Plus we have Ellington. That’s the team we need to build. Oh then we get Rudy Gay as a free agent. This is the future of the Wolves.
Rondo
Flynn
Gay
Brewer
Jefferson
Ellington
Sessions
3 - 4 first round picks to fill out the roster.
Gomes maybe.
Probably doesn’t work under the cap, but I feel like it might because Rondo’s contract is coming up so we can add him as a free agent. Plus I’m sure we could make the contracts work in the Boston trade. What do you guys think?
I don’t think that losing a few pounds will help Al’s problems on defense. He simply doesn’t react well or move his feet on D. Last year he showed plenty of quickness (especially for a big guy) on offense when he knew what he wanted to do. But when he had to react on defense he was always a split second behind–didn’t anticipate and didn’t move his feet to win the position.
Rubio and Love for Rondo and Boston’s 1st round pick is a bad trade. Rondo is a bit of a head case, and boston’s pick will be at the bottom of the first round.
Why would we take on Rondo when we already have problems finding burn for just Flynn and Sessions?
Not to mention Rondo will be a FA next year…
and we can get more than that for Rubio (considering Rondo is getting a big payday and the Celts 1st might as well be a 2nd rounder).
Mike 2
fair analysis of Al on last year’s defense; hopefully he can turn it around this year.
So is Hart on a 10 day contract or…?
Foye, Miller, Smith and Telfair all looked pretty good tonight, too bad they didn’t look good playing together. It just shows that when these guys play with good players they are better off. We just had too many decent players and no great players to take the pressure off these guys.
That was the problem with our old team and McHale. It was a team of really good fillers. For some reason Mac seemed determined to make a team of scrappers and sixth men. I’m sure all of those guys will go on to have good careers now that they are put into positions to succeed and not to fail.
We finally are starting to get some people who can be stars, and stars win rings.

You guys underrate how good Rondo is. He’s a stud.
I shoot better than Rondo.
That has to be the most ignorant trade proposal ever posted on this board. That is a true honor indeed. Move over Bryan.
