Pecherov in, Wilkins out tonight at Phoenix

Judging from the configurations at this morning’s shootaround, looks like Kurt Rambis is going to adjust his starting lineup from the first two games for tonight’s game at Phoenix: Oleksiy Pecherov was with starters Jefferson, Gomes, Brewer and Flynn and Damien Wilkins, who started the first two games, was with the second unit.

Rambis has said the lineup likely will fluctuate, depending on matchups, at least until Kevin Love gets back from that fractured hand. Tonight, the Suns are expected to start 6-11 Channing Frye and 6-10 Amare Stoudemire next to each other, so Rambis will counter with Pecherov’s 7-foot size next to Al.

Tomorrow is the deadline for the team options. When the 31st falls on a weekend, the deadline moves to the next business day. Yes, this is for team options as well as extensions.

Pecherov will guard Frye I’m guessing and Al will guard Amare, Al better be ready because Amare has always been quicker than Al and now Al is a little slowed by injuries.

Smart idea. Frye is purely a jumpshooter now…he’s never recovered his inside game after his rookie season injury.

Eric in Madison, where’d you read that? All the news sources, including the NBA’s own news posting, specified the ‘06 draft class’s extensions this morning….

Good to see Gomes move back to his natural position, and good to get some more size with Al.

Nice to see Brewer coming out with some offense. When he’s confident, you can see what he is capable of.

Al is a black hole and they need to get this guy moved. One-dimensional, unable to pass out of the post he is going to perish in this type of offense. The Wolves have taken to the new offense and run it with some adeptness but no one on the team can bury a shot. I’d expect Al to be traded either at the deadline or this summer. Gomes is a goner and Brewer is probably gone….he might be able to offset his pathetic shot with the other intangibles but I doubt it.

Long, long way for this team to be a factor.

First off, Brewer’s option will be picked up simply for his defense, the fact he’s a worker and has shown improvemnts each year will ensure his option gets picked up.

Flynn is a scoring PG right now, not a shooting PG, there is a difference. Rose/Rondo are scoring PG’s neither is a shooting PG, the only way they get away w/it is b/c of the rule changes on perimeter defense.
I’m not saying Flynn is a 45-50% j-shooter at this point, but i’m willing to bet he can knock down a j. The main problem is that AJ currently does not demand double teams, no one on our team at the moment demands doubles, makes it alot easier to shut down lanes. Its that much easier when you have 7ft 330lbs standing at the rim. right, i agree Flynn isn’t a pop a j in your mug player at the moment, but i’m willing to bet he can beat his guy off the dribble more than not thus forcing collapses and thereby opening up other players–problem is those players aren’t hitting right now.

Brewer will be fine. His shot finally looks like it has some consistent form and decent arc, appears rambis has straightened out his form, now its just repitition. i have no doubt brewer will improve every season–as he already has done every year. Not to mention this is his first NBA year he has an actual coaching staff.

Stoyks: actually we’re not a long, long way to being a factor, just a shooter or two, develop Hollins and Jawai and we’re there.

With the cap space and picks we have coming, if we use them correctly we could be there next year. If not i expect to be in the mix the following year. It’ll take a year just to get this offense down. This offense has very few plays, its more reads and playing off the defense…very hard to learn, but once you do, impossible to stop.

My fantasy opponent this week picked up Frye yesterday and Frye just happens to hit a ton of 3’s and he is going to win that category by a couple now. Frye has talent and fits there system well.

I’ve been wanting the Wolves to pick up Frye for two years now.

Arenal,

I agree that from an execution pov they aren’t that far. I’ve actually been impressed with how they space themselves already in this offense. I think they need to find guys that can actually make the shots. They certainly haven’t lacked from open shots so far.

I think Kahn intentionally hasn’t put “makers” on this squad…if they made the shots they are getting they’d play themselves out of prime draft position and ruin the plan.

If the pivot forwards and the pg’s get this offense it won’t take a lot to get wings that can shoot. I think Kahn intentionally didn’t avail himself of guys who had been cast off that could shoot…might win a few too many.

I think that this offense will be devastating if they find a post guy that can get comfy (I don’t think it will be Al), a forward that can rebound (his hand is broken), point guards that can get the ball where it needs to be (they have them) and wings that can bury the open shot (those are the parts that will come via trade/FA/draft.)

You can see that the system will work.

Yeah he would have been nice with Al, Love and Hollins, a better version of Pecherov

Bryan says:

November 1st, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I’m guessing Pech won’t get his option picked up. All he does is shoot…doesn’t rebounds, doesn’t pass, might not even know what defense is…we can find a big who can shoot an offers a more complete game as well.

I’m hoping to see Hollins start tomorrow.
