No Love: Wolves at Blazers tonight

They’re about to tip it off at the Rose Garden.

Of course, Kevin Love won’t play in his hometown. He likely will miss both games here this season since the Wolves return to play here in just 13 days.

The Wolves are going with the same lineup — Pecherov at power forward, Gomes at small forward, Big Al at center, Brewer at shooting guard and Flynn at point — while the Blazers are countering by going small with with LaMarcus Alridge, Greg Oden, Steve Blake, Andre Miller and, of course, Brandon Roy.

And yet we still won’t try Sessions and Flynn together…

Would have been ideal to start Brewer’s defense opposite of Roy and match Portland’s two point guard lineup with two of our own.

I’m starting to get rather annoyed we traded Eaton Thomas away…at least he’s more of a legit center than Al is. he’s getting manhandled by all the centers had to (try to) defend.

I am liking Jawai. he’s gotta work on footwork but his size is a great asset out there.

This is ugly, I guess the good part is that they are getting out on the break, they just aren’t stopping them very much. And you know Roy isn’t going to finish with 2 points.

brewer has done a job on Roy; too bad the rest of the team decides they don’t know how to play defense.

The common view is that the Blazers franchise is the paragon of a struggling club that has become a huge success. But how far did the Blazers reach in the playoffs? Weren’t the tossed after the first round?

And the Blazers were only 3-3 going into their cupcake game against the feckless Wolves.

If, as Kahn and crew, contend that the Wolves are young and inexperienced, in need of a well constructed player development program, why not relegate the club to the D-League for a couple of seasons.

I hear the chili is good in Sioux Falls, the scenery is fantastic in Fort Wayne, you get the idea.

Then, once they emerge as a winning, seasoned and experienced team, they can rejoin the NBA.

Last year was the first time the Blazers even made the playoffs since starting their rebuilding process, and the team they lost to took the Lakers to 7 games.

It’s just a difference in how they did it. I suppose you could technically say we’re in year 1 of rebuilding, since Kahn has a much different plan than McHale did and more or less stripped the roster back down to nothing. Or you could simply say that McHale got trumped, both indirectly and directly, by Kevin Pritchard.

Either way the Blazers were indeed just as bad as we are a few years ago. It all depends on how well we use our assets going forward. All teams rebuild at some point.

Let’s give Jawai more time to develop in games. Borrow some of Cardinals time, and if AJ is slow getting back, let him have some of his time too. Hollins needs development time also.
